AutoZone the Pigs
Almost immediately after the murder of George Floyd, people who are done accepting police violence took to the streets all around the world, but starting in Minneapolis. "Civil unrest," as it was called by the media, provided an avenue for people to let out their frustrations endured with the continuing violence against people of color within capitalism. Our system of government disproportionately values material possessions over life, and for that reason, the destruction of property is a valid and necessary response to the loss of life. Streets full of rubble, people milling about in the detritus volunteering to help clean up, and disaster tourists taking pictures out the window of their BMWs. This project is just documenting the surreal atmosphere that resulted. Nobody really knew how to exist in this world. It was a shock to those who are made comfortable by our society, and that was exactly the point. To bring that discomfort right to the forefront of people's lives, making it visible for all to see.
